When The Stars Line Up, Shoot For ’em

02/15/2012

It was recently confirmed that we won a Gold award for the Graphis 100 Best in Design for 2012. The project receiving the award was the 2012 Fiat 500 Media Announcement kit. We are quite honored, especially given the prestige of the award, and the extraordinary level of international design competition of both current, and past, award winners.

In order to even have a chance at receiving an award in this competition, the “stars” have to be lined up just right. You’ve got to have an interesting client with some international presence, as well as a product or service with a bit of panache. And that same client has to be willing to do something a bit out of the ordinary in order to achieve the project’s communications goals, as well as be an integral, and contributing, part of the creative team – from concept to completion. Although we work on dozens of high visibility, interesting projects with some great clients each year, very few have the built-in criteria needed to contend for an award like this.

Our thanks go out to a great client, and an incredibly talented support team that helped produce a piece that, most importantly, met and surpassed the project’s original communications objectives.

Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication, was first published in 1944 in Zurich, Switzerland, presenting the work of fine artists and illustrators, and highlighting the formative years of graphic design – as well as advertising and photography – as it has evolved today. The publishers selectively chose what they felt to be the best talent of the time to be included. Invited into the Alliance Graphique International in 1952, the publication also introduced the Graphis Annual that same year. In the early 90s, the Graphis headquarters were relocated from Zurich to New York City. The annuals continued to feature an extraordinary level of international creative works, and several new books were added. As the Journal evolves, it continues to be one of the most prestigious publications in the field of visual communications.

If you’re interested, here’s a link to the Graphis web page that our project is displayed on. (Have a bit of patience when clicking on pages with multiple photos; the high-res versions seem to come up slowly, as they were photographed for the printed book.) You can also see the creative work of 99 other international firms.
