Iconix Inc – InsideOut

Iconix And The Giant

08/09/2011

Here’s a short video we recently completed – a result of a little bit of staff “R&D fun” combined with a burning desire to shamelessly promote ourselves.

The theme idea came from a comment made by one of our key suppliers: “The size and exposure level of most of your projects in relation to the size of your company is pretty amazing.” We then went on to explain, very casually, that not only did we not aspire to be a huge agency, but we actually felt it was extremely advantageous not to be. To our surprise, it became apparent that this was the first time our long-time friend realized that we were the size we were on purpose.

“Kind of like the giant and that guy with the magic beans…Jack.” Yeah…

The next day we brainstormed about what we might do with our friend’s observations. We liked the fairy tale idea, since acting like kids comes natural to some of us (i.e. me). It also gave the staff a great subject to use to experiment with different techniques, and showcase some of the capabilities not normally seen in our work for clients.

We used a combination of photography, video and illustration with actual objects and electronically drawn pieces made to look like paper “cut-outs.” A couple of types of animation and editing software was employed, and combined for the final edit. Our friends at Real Catholic TV were kind enough to let us use their sound studio, and also provided half of the final voiceover “talent.” (Thanks again, you guys.) Iconix designers Kristy, Mary Kay, Renee and Dale combined to do the art, photography, video, animation and editing, while Christine offered (gave) her critique during every step of the process. Kristy, an experienced hand model, also lent five of her highly sought-after digits to the cause.

We had fun and, who knows, maybe this will be the first in a series of Iconix versions of classic tales. Hope you find it interesting. Thanks for your time.
